The novel has five main characters  and all in a way connected with each other. The main character and the hero of the novel is Gabriel Oak and the heroine of the novel is Bathsheba Everdene. The novel revolves the lives of the characters.

Here in this story is all about the love triangle between the characters. In the starting of the novel we see that Oak meets with Bathsheba and he fall in love with her beauty. After they meet several time he comes to know that she has only one fault it is her 'Vanity' with her beauty.

Oak went to Bathsheba's aunt with the proposal of marriage, but she refuses and then she also said that she doesn't love him so she can't marry with him. She also in a search of man who has good status into society and also pamper her, but Oak would not able to do that ever.

Bathsheba was very ambitious lady, she has left town to manage the farm which is got from inheritance. At that night Oak has suffer with the tragic accident, in that he loose his all sheep and he becomes poor. Bathsheba has also cheated Boldwood just for fun, he was really in love with her. Troy was  missing for some of the months so ultimately he declared as dead. Other side Boldwood forced Bathsheba to coming into party and when he gives her ring for engagement, at that time Troy was come and Boldwood shot him, then he also get dead. So at the end of the novel Oak and Bathsheba got married.

Here in the novel Hardy beautifully describes the human emotions. How the characters playing emotionally with each other, Bathsheba's aunt playing with Oak emotion, Bathsheba playing with Boldwood emotion and  Troy playing with the Fanny and Bathsheba emotion. So with that novel converts into tragic novel.

      Thank you....

Tughlaq: A Play by Girish Karnad

Girish Karnad's play: Tughlaq

In my first year of Graduation, i have studied this first historical novel, Tughlaq by Girish Karnad. It is very long novel to read but it gives us fruitful information about historical events. In this novel writer's main focus on only one character, Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq. The reading of novel deals with the personality of Tughlaq, and every time we found the new changes in his personality which is never found before.

  • About the Author: Girish Karnad

Girish Karnad was know as Indian English Writer. He was basically deal with the Kannada Literature. He gives his writing contribution in Kannada Language,  his many works translated into English successfully. Tughlaq is one of his work which is also translated in English language by him. He was genius dramatist.

He put various themes into his works like, Mythical, Historical and folk theme. He also aware about the human nature and paradox of human nature, so we identify these features in his works.

    • Tughlaq:

The second play written by Girish Karnad, in 1964. It is originally written in Kannada language, later on translated into English language by himself. The novel based on the personality of  Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq. He was ruled over India in 14th century. The novel is in very controversy when it published. The main theme of the novel is complexity of the character. The character itself in a controversy, because he has two side of personality, Good as well as Bad.

He was also known as the man of action rather than man of thinker. In the starting of the novel we see that the complexity into the character,he has a hunger for knowledge. He also referred the knowledge of 'Quran', he was eager to learn something and curious for knowledge. He was also good player of chess. He was also a good reader of Greek, Farcical and Arabic literature.

We compared Tughlaq's character with Marlow's play, 'Dr. Faustus'. The similarity in both is that, both have lots of knowledge and though they want more. Even they both have quite same personality.  Dr. Faustus has also a tragic end, very similar into the story of Tughlaq he also reach at the tragic end.

      Thank you...

   2.

-Feminist icons in Harry Potter.
-Female who was not a pure-blood neglected most like Hermione.
-There were existence of Lavender Brown.
-Hermione’s character is not certainly not the archetype of a typical problematic female character.
-How many times did we as women feel the brunt of a relationship not working out (though in this case this was just imaginary)? If we break up we’re called
names like ‘cold hearted bitches’ or ‘sluts’, whereas if the man breaks up he’s either a ‘player’ or it’s our fault
for falling for the wrong kind of men! Here Rowling shows how a girl is always judged for her behavior whereas the boy remains above all sins.

-Here in this article we see that the character of Hermione, Molly, Ginny, Lavender Brown described as a point of view of the male characters. There were also a feminist reading of the character Hermione.
- In the movie no.4 there we found that the Ron insulted relationship between Hermione and Victor Krum.
-Even in the movie we see that the reporter named Reeta raises a question on the friendship between the Harry and Hermione.

While we talk about the Harry Potter as a science fiction, there were we see that they also learn about the making of potion and how it is used well and where?

The theme of choice and chance: How does Harry Potter Discusses the antithetical concepts of ‘choice’ and ‘chance’?

-Harry Potter and deathly Hallows the theme of choice.

Even Voldemort given Harry to chance to redemption but he refuses, so here we see his choice, whatever he want he choose without any hesitation.

4
The theme of love and death: How dose Harry Potter make use of age old theme of love and death as well as living as protecting armour? How does Harry Potter deal with the concept of Death as something inevitable

In the Harry Potter Movie series the theme of Love and Death play a vital role.

Love and Death is a part of life of every human being.

  • choice and chance in Harry Potter

    • In the movie we see that there were the  characters who have many Choice and chance in their life. The character are like Lily Potter, Harry, Hermione, Melfoy, Neville has some kind of choice in their life.

Lily Potter, Harry's mother has a choice to protect her child from the Voldemort or sacrifice herself for her son. It is the huge choice of her life to protect her son or not, but she saved Harry.

In the last part of the movie we see that Harry has a choice to redemption with his enemy or Fight against him. Harry at that time being helpless because no one can help him in this fight. He himself has a choice to fight or leave the fight. But he choose the option to fight with his enemy and also win into it.

Melfoy is other character who has also his own choice to be a part of death-eater. If he was not interest to being a part of it he refuses but with his choice he being a part of that.

  • What is Speculative Literature?

    • Speculative Literature is a genre in which the supernatural elements are used most. It is not limited one but into it there were also science fiction, fantasy, superhero fiction, science fantasy, horror, and supernatural fiction, as well as their combination.

      • Harry Potter as a Speculative Fiction:

Harry Potter novel by J.K.Rowling and into it we find that some elements related to horror and fantasy. In the all series we found that there were only the fantasy world, not real one. Magic was there and it is also a part of speculative Literature. Hermione well used magic rather than other two Harry and Ron. Entire series of Harry Potter based on the Horror, because the setting of the movie is night. The other horror elements are there were voldemort comes in the environment of Hogworts there were always we see darkness is there.

Harry Potter as a science fiction we can see into the class of potion. There were always we learn new thing about the magic. Hermione made some potion for her friends to disappear. Other we notice that only the professor of potion change every time not other one.

As we all know that it is a fantasy movie or novel not real one. In the movie we see that there are the things like broomsticks, wand, cloak, magical stone is a part of fantasy world. In reality there were not anything like that. The magical thing also banned in some religion also. Like in Christianity and Muslim culture it is bad thing to do.

when we talk about the supernatural elements into the Harry Potter is that Harry's perants appears in the movie so many times. Whenever Harry was in trouble there were some kind of magical power, who saved him. Harry always think that it was his perants who always with him, but it it his inner power or we can say his strength who saved him.

Feminist reading of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter

  1. Feminist reading of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter:

    Image result for hermione granger

    • The feminist idea in Harry Potter we seen that through the most popular character Hermione Granger. In the movie we see that the character of Hermione is more claver and intelligent than other two characters, Harry and Ron. She was looking very strong. She also reflects as a independent and intellectual girl. She always perform the right spell. In classroom, she gives more attention towards the studies. she capture thing very quickly and also use in different troubles. J.K.Rowing describes Hermione's character very challenging in her novel. She belong to the 'Muggle-Blood', so she got insulted so many times by Melfoy. In the movies Hermione's character reflects so naturally, and also shows the situation of woman in male dominant society. Also Hermione depicts the image of strong independent woman in modern society. Although Hermione one of the main character , she is not much developed as good well as Harry. We didn't know enough about Hermione's own ambitions and her family background. It is like that the sole purpose of the character of Hermione is to help Harry, and become love interest of Ron. As being a leading female character this could be considered as injustice of the character of Hermione. even though J.K.Rowling herself is the woman we could expect that she would create a much more detailed female character, but J.K.Rowling fails the reader here.

Sacred feminism in Da vinci code

The sacred feminism

Image result for the sacred feminism

The Sacred Feminine is a concept that recognizes that “God” ultimately is neither anthropomorphically male or female but a Divine Essence (Goddessence) beyond form and duality – an essence that is in balance and unification of masculine and feminine principles – a dynamic interdependent  “Immanence”  that pervades all life. The Asian Yin Yang icon is a good representation of this idea.

However, seeing the divine as an abstract concept of omnipresent consciousness, or immanence, is a challenge for most humans. We all have a basic human need to put the inexplicable into a tangible form in order to explore our relationship to it. Thus we tend to anthropomorphize or attribute human characteristics to the unknowable. In other words, we name and assign form to an abstract concept in order to relate to it at our level of ability. So the Divine Essence or Absolute has become a “Father” God figure that we were taught to visualize, pray to and imagine having a personal relationship with.

Unfortunately, seeing the vast, infinite, absolute and indescribable Goddessence only in the form of masculine metaphor and symbol has severely limited our human spiritual potential and greatly hindered our ability to live in peace and balance on this earth.

For the last several thousand years the dominant religious belief systems of our world have been patriarchal which sanctioned societal ethics that elevated God the Father over Mother Earth, and man over woman.

But it hasn’t always been this way! It is vital to remember that for eons before patriarchy, throughout the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages of pre “his-story,”  there were worldwide “Mother/Female and Earth” honoring societies that lived in a more egalitarian, sustainable and peaceful culture that thrived without war for thousands of years. It is urgent to rediscover and exhume the lost memory of those cultures to inform us and inspire us to construct a more stable foundation for society’s future.

Remembering these lost matrifocal civilizations authenticates and validates the significance of the Sacred Feminine and the importance of women and female values as we rebuild a healthier global unity.

It is time to balance the masculine and feminine principles within our belief systems, our religious doctrines, our cultural ethos, and within ourselves. To gain this equilibrium, we must shift our focus for a while to the idea of Universal Motherhood – we need to explore the metaphor of the Mother, the symbol of the Goddess and the model of Priestess. We need to bring to light the archaeological evidence of ancient Goddesses and their stories. We need to emphasize “Motherly” love, wisdom, compassion and creativity as well as respect sexuality as natural and sacred. We must empower women and celebrate their contribution to spirituality, culture and society. And we must awaken ourselves, teach our children and educate our men.

Awareness of the Sacred Feminine will aid us to appreciate the feminine nature in women and men. Awareness of a Universal Motherhood will help us to respect the earth and Mother Nature. Awareness of the Feminine Principle will help us honor women’s bio-physical and emotional passages through life, and to help all people (women particularly) to attain healthy self-esteem. And this awareness will encourage all persons to find inner balance and peace, thereby increasing respect and tolerance of each other – which ultimately will promote greater world harmony.

It is time to honor the Sacred Feminine. “Honoring the Sacred Feminine”, in the spiritual sense, means valuing the feminine principle, along with the masculine principle, as equal and fundamental aspects of the Divine. From a planetary level, it means respecting and healing our Mother Earth. From a cultural standpoint, it means revivifying the archetype of the Goddess through entertainment and the arts and using language that gives equal emphasis to the pronouns “she” and “her”. In the societal sense, it means re-creating the role of Priestess, and respecting the contribution of women in business, science, art and politics, as well as the home and community. In a religious view, it means offering ceremony and service that reaffirms our connection to the divine, the Goddess, the earth and each other. In the human sense, honoring the Sacred Feminine means especially valuing the innate worth of woman’s mind, body and soul, as well as appreciating the “feminine” qualities in the male character.

Illustration of the movie: The Da Vinci Code

  • In the movie The Da Vinci Code we see that there is the character named Sophie Neveu, described as a 'Sacred Feminism'. First no one can know about the Sophie's past, so she only introduce as a normal human being. When her grandfather died and leave some clues about her existence, then she think about herself that why her grandfather doing some black magic. The professor Robert Langdon some how know about the Sophie that she was a bloodline of Jesus Christ, but he can't tell her without the prove. At the end the reach at the place where they find some evidence about the Sophie's birth and also find some connection with the bloodline of Jesus Christ. So with the further reading about the Jesus Christ we say that he was also a common human being not divine one, people think that he was a son of God and a second coming but it is not true about him he was just like us.
  • In the Indian culture we see that there were also so many Gods and Goddesses. Even we see that there were many God in the nature. Rivers, mountains, trees all are the part of people faith.  In Indian culture people believe into the Monkey God also. There were some Avatars like Rama, Krishna and many others but it all made by our faith into it, they all are just human kind not divine one.
  • In the movie we see that before knowing about Sophie was a bloodline of Jesus Christ, she living simple life. After knowing that Sophie was a bloodline of Jesus, she becomes special for some people and they also worshiped as Goddesses.

Thinking Activity on the novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

Thinking Activity on the novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

This novel by Da Brown, The Da Vinci Code was very controversy in nowadays. This book also banned in so many countries. Some critics or the people who also believe that it book was an Anti-Christianity, but it is not as so. And then Dan Brown himself said on his site that the book was not an Anti-Christian but it only raise a question on the Christianity.

1.) Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a 'constant spiritual journey' himself, and says that his book The Da Vinci Code is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith."

Ans:  This novel is full of things about the  Christianity and also tell us about the Jesus personal life and relation with Mary Magdalene. This novel is quiet interesting and entertaining. The story also promotes the spiritual discussion and debate about Christianity. The Protagonist of the novel Robert langton, also constant going on his spiritual journey, because he has some scar form his childhood. He also believing in God from his Past, he also experienced God when he was fall down into the well. Still he was in his journey to find the God, or experienced of God. The othe r side we see that there were one historian whose name is Leigh  Teabing was an Anti- Christian but with the good purpose. He believe to destroyed the truth of and blind faith of humans in God. He wants to give freedom the people who blindly follow the Christian rules and kill the people like it is said by their teacher. The other character named Silas also follow blindly the Christian rules and kills so may people, and Leigh Teabing also want to break this faith. The protagonist of the novel Robert at the end of the novel still believing in God and it is not an Anti-Christianity. It is also positive catalyst and for introspection and exploration of our faith.

2.)  (If)You have studied ‘Genesis’ (The Bible), ‘The Paradise Lost’ (John Milton) and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ (Dan Brown). Which of the narrative/s seem/s to be truthful? Whose narrative is convincing to the contemporary young mind?

Ans:  We study all these three works related somehow to the Christianity. In all these three books we see that there were talking about the God and also doubt on their existence. But in the case of the novel The Da Vinci Code it is more convincing than the other two works. Contemporary young generation more trust on the novel The Da Vinci Code, because we live in the era of doubt and not easily trust on them who is anything  speaking about God. We live in the era of Post truth, so we doubt on anything and also ask a question on the existence of God. First we look at the Genesis, it is also a story about existence of Jesus Christ, we don't know exactly about it but there were some Gospel about it. Second we study The Paradise Lost, by John Milton it is also one long epic poem. It is also the imagination of Milton, in the poem we saw that how human kind was existent on the Earth, by the given punishment of God. And we also know from the experience of Adam and Eve, and the punishment was that the women suffers during the child birth. So that the human kind have some fear from God. Third and the last novel The Da Vinci Code, we see that there were some truth about the life of Jesus Christ and it is also hide by some secret keepers. The Protagonist find that and he also still believing the God was there in the air. But Dan Brown Prove that the Jesus himself not a God but a simple Divine human kind, and also show that things in his movie. so the contemporary young generation more trust on this novel.

3.) What harm has been done to humanity by the biblical narration or that of Milton’s in The Paradise Lose? What sort of damage does narrative like ‘The Vinci Code’ do to humanity?

Ans. We all know that any religion responsible for the damage of humanity or society. Many people killed each other and bit someone on the name of God and For the name of God. In the Paradise Lost we see that there were also a fall of humanity. In the poem we see that the Christianity controls the human kind specially control the women. In religion the authority only have to men not women, if woman want to say something they kill her. The woman have not freedom of speech, on the name of God Pop, Bishops control over the women's activity. Even woman have no rights to do something against the God. On the other hand we see that in the Da Vinci Code there were the character named Silas who kill so many people on the name of God. He was blind follower of God. He was dumb character in the novel after murdering he give hard punishment to himself. When Silas shoot by police officer he has some regression on his killing and he was said that, ' I am Demon '. So, like that religion harm to humanity in various ways.

4.)  Do novel / film lead us into critical (deconstructive) thinking about your religion? Can we think of such conspiracy theory about Hindu religious symbols / myths?

Ans. Yes, the novel/movie lead us into deconstructive thinking about our religion. In some famous work we see that there were so interesting story about God and Goddesses but we can not blindly trust on them , because may be it is only for the entertaining. The history is the past of the past so we didn't know actually about it. In the case of Dan Brown's novel, we didn't clearly know about what is holy grail and what is Sarcophagus of Mary Magdalen. So whatever we read we do not apply as our knowledge but we raises question against it. What is exactly Holy Grail and What is Sarcophagus of Mary Magdalen, entire the movie/novel we find some secret about it and at the end the truth was revel. It also question on our religion that it is real or not. In Hindu religion we saw that there were so many gospels tell by some saints, it is not as trustworthy. Later stories are written by so many people and in their work there were their thoughts or imagination not truth. In very famous epic named Mahabharata there were mentioned the story about Bhima and his wife Hidimba and their son. In the actual epic poem there were not any clue of their story so, it is also raises question on the religion. In the novel Da Vinci Code there were also many question like, Has there been any relation between the Jesus and Mary Magdalen?, There were actually any Holy Grail?, Sophia was a Jesus and Mary's bloodline? that kind of question raises in our mind after watching the movie.

5.) When we do traditional reading of the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’, Robert Langdon, Professor of Religious Symbology, Harvard University emerges as protagonist and Sir Leigh Teabing, a British Historian as antagonist. Who will claim the position of protagonist if we do atheist reading of the novel.

Ans.  If we read the novel as a traditional way we say that Robert Langdon was a protagonist of the novel, because he was still believing of God after knowing the truth. If we looking as atheist reader we find Leigh Teabing as a protagonist. Leigh Teabing wants to reveal the truth and give freedom to people from the blind faith in God. He was a Historian and studies a lot about the Christianity, he know that the Jesus was not a God but a Divine human kind like us, but some people blind follow the Christianity. Robert has some faith in God because his experience with God, he can not agree with Teabing to reveal the truth and he becomes the next secret keeper. At the end of the movie he finally finds the Holy Grail or Mary's sarcophagus and at there he was kneeling down and becomes pious.

6.)  Explain Ann Gray’s three propositions on ‘knowability’ with     illustrations from the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’.
  1) Identifying what is knowable
  2) identifying and acknowledging the relationship of the knower and the known
 3) What is the procedure for ‘knowing’?

Ans.  There are four stage of knowability. Here in this novel, ' I don't know, what i don't know ' is apply on many of the characters. Some time we can't find truth even it was in front of our eyes. The time and place played a vital role to know the truth, Before the time we can't know anything about the truth even it was relate with us. In the case o Sophie she really don't know that she was a bloodline of Jesus, and she even don't know about the Holy Grail and what is the secret?. At the end the truth reveal and she realize  that she was a secret. Other character the professor Robert Langdon, also can't understand some symbol and taking help of the historian named Leigh Teabing. He was also don't know what is the secret but with the help of clues he reaches at the Sophie and know that she was a secret. The blind follower of the Christianity Silas also don't know that what is truth and kills so many people, but at the end he know that God didn't tell to kill somebody and he feel regress on his work. So there are the characters who really Don't know what they Don't know.
